Who is a Nollywood director and what are the challenges facing Nollywood directors - Armani J Armani

A question throwing by Director Amarni J Armani (DGN)
This questions emerged after some serious thought from a Renowned Nollywood director- Armani J Armani, the big masquerade in Nollywood, who saw the need to deal with the challenges eating deep in the Nollywood community, especially the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) the hen that lays the golden egg.
I promise I will give few reasons why we have decided to form this honourable chamber (FILM MAKERS AND FRIENDS) these are few issues that have eaten deep, and have really destroyed professionalism in film making, volatile environment, unprofessionalism in craft ,resources, act of legislature, individualism and other vices but then I will only speak on individualism,in such situation of ours,it is pertinent that we should put hands together to eschew individualistic tendency and work together as a unit, how,we should serve as links to one another, our platform is known as film makers and friends, it means all institutions/tools of film making is here, let us look inwards and synchronize the hallmark of success amongst ourselves, link yourselves to various intending jobs within your scope,,there are costumier, actors, makeups, drop, editors and directors, try as much as possible to help yourself,by so doing this, you will have causes as a broom to attract government for legislative proceeding.
In an interactive section with other intellectual bulldozers who are ready to positively tackle the menace of unprofessionalism in the industry.
These are comments and contributions given by concerned actors and critics expert based on a topic #
"Who is a nollywood director and what are the constraints/ challenges facing nollywood director?.
Good evening house...( Frank opted in)
Lemme go with the first question; WHO IS A NOLLYWOOD DIRECTOR?

Firstly, Nollywood is a community of for Morton pictures, Movie Productions and sales thus, a community whose profession is nothing but to make movies.
But who is a Nollywood director?
A Nollywood director is a Man/woman who possesses the spirit of film, the spirit of story both past and present,
Because he posses the spirit of film, he interprets the vision of a story writer, A director is Movie embodied person who sees ahead and above both the artists view, writers views and perceptions.
He breaks and amends, he plants and uproot.
I generally define a director as a vehicle that carries both the artists, the crew, the story and it's writer.
But the question is ...
What qualifies one to be known as a director?
1) he must first of all be an actor, so that he will posses the artistic spirit for story interpretation,
2) he must pass through serial series of training through Education or Apprenticeship.
3) he must have foresight
4) he must be versatile and diversified( this means that he must be flexible to learn and make researches randomly in all works and spheres of life,
5) he must practice the life of an actor first to become his boldness , because some directors will tell u to interpret a particular character but tell them to give you example of what he actually wanted you to do, it becomes a problem.
Then what are the personal and general qualities required of a director?
Am still coming...Lemme jump to the second topic.
The challenges facing Nollywood directors and how it can be remedied?
The No1 challenges is 1)lack of skills,
2) Lack of humility ( everyone wants to have that tittle-Director by all means)
3) lack of training and amateur orientation
4) unprofessionalism
5)poverty too ( because of gluttony they compromise alot and accept peanut as pay
6) lack of foresight
7) no research on how to improve better
8) lazy in studies and many more that I can't mention.
But the way forward is this... 2nd chronicles 14:7 says
If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray to me, I will forgive them their sins and heal their lands
There must be immediate screening in the directors forum, quarks must be swept out.
Asaba must be screened, southeast generally must be screened, all the noise maker's(directors) should be ruled out and a professional ruling body or commission should be established to bring back sanity into the industry. I do believe in the strength of Nollywood, but the truth remains that - a prophet is not trained in the city, rather a prophet is trained in the wilderness, where he will eat locust and honey, fight beast and wild animals so that when he comes out, he will boldly say" Thus said the Lord.
Nollywood should maybe sometimes invite Hollywood professionals at least to put us through in one or two things, especially in Morton pictures , adventures and even love stories.
All these our farmland farmland kinda stories should be kept aside even though we understand the fact that it's our indigenous storylines
I believe by now we've come to know who a Nollywood director is, ( by Anonymous) Let me go straight to our challenges are:
1. Equipment; if a Nollywood director have access to half of the equipment a Hollywood or Bollywood directors have, we have the creative ability to do more than them.
2. Budget: Lack of good budget rubbishes our film; this is where the issue of a script writer have a problem with the director because he wants to improvise due to lack of props, location, actor leaving set, no more money for equipment etc...
3. Government policy: We lack government policies that can strengthen our industry such as project (film) insurance policies, film studios, and film villages etc.
4. Patience: Every Nollywood directors are competing with each other on the numbers of movies shot in a year instead of taking time to plan a good production.
5. Lack of Pre-production planning: the adage that says, if you don't plan, you plan to fail. We always rush to set without proper pre production planning. Click here to continue
