four Police officers Arrested for killing suspected pocket pickers In Lagos

The Lagos State police command has arrest four Police officers serving in its Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit after they shot two unarmed suspects. The officers had shot the suspected thieves after disarming them of their weapons and holding them in their custody.

The arrested policemen are identified as Sergeant Olaniyi Solomon, Inspector Fabiyi Omomayara, Sergeant Solomon Sunday and Corporal Aliyu Mukaila, all from the Iba Division Patrol team.

The now-viral incident occurred on Monday, August 19, 2019, at around 3.00pm. The Iba Police Station had received a distress call from one Anugu Valentine ‘m’ of No.2 50 Agege motor road Mushin, that a group of armed men numbering up to 4 and who were on 2 motorcycles had attacked him at the Ipaye area of Iba and dispossessed him of an iPhone max which is valued at N450,000.

The DPO of the Iba acted on this information by immediately deploying the Divisional Patrol team to the scene. Two of the armed robbers managed to escape while the remaining two were arrested. Two locally-made pistols, as well as six life cartridges and five expended cartridges, were recovered from the suspected thieves.

The gang are said to have carried out several robberies within the Iba environs and are notorious for their deeds. It was highly celebrated as the thieves were nabbed by the policemen. The Patrol team, however, went overboard by shooting the suspects to death after taking them in their custody instead of taking them to the Police Station where a thorough investigation which is the normal procedure would have been carried out.

CP Zubairu Muazu, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, has given an order that investigation should be carried out into the incident.

The arrested Police Officers are at the moment, subject to the Orderly Room trial which is an internal disciplinary proceeding. They will be dismissed from the force if found culpable, after which they will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba for prosecution in the conventional Court.

Please return my $40m Jewelry and my Golden iPhone

A former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has prayed the Federal High Court in Lagos to order the return of her 2,149 pieces of jewellery and a customised gold iPhone valued at $40 million, Igbere TV reports.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had on July 5 secured the order for the temporary forfeiture of her property.

Mrs Alison-Madueke filed the request in an application by her lawyer, Prof. Awa Kalu.

Diezani, who is currently in the United Kingdom, accused the EFCC of entering her apartment illegally and taking the items without any court order.

She said the anti-graft agency violated her fundamental “right to own property and to appropriate them at her discretion,” under sections 43 and 44 of the Constitution.

The former minister urged the court to reject EFCC’s prayer to permanently forfeit the jewellery and the gold iPhone to the Federal Government.

Diezani said the court lacked jurisdiction to have granted the interim forfeiture order in the first place, as she had not been charged with any crime or served with any summons by the EFCC.

Her lawyer’s absence in court stalled proceedings on Monday.

However, Igbere TV gathers that a lawyer from Kalu’s chambers, Chukwuka Obidike, told the court that he was engaged in election petitions.

Justice Nichola Oweibo adjourned the case till August 29.

But he confirmed that the association had reached out to the christian wing which Fatoyinbo belongs to ascertain truth of the matter and take necesssary actions.

”We have no details about the matter other than what we are reading and hearing from the social media, and this is not reliable and credible evidence.

”The CAN leadership has reached out to the leadership of the block which the Pastor in question belongs with a view to getting to the root of the matter.

”This will help us to make the right decision on the issue,” he said.

NAN reports that there will be a protest march to COZA church in Abuja, on 30 June, by #Church Too Movement.

NAN also reports that Busola Dakolo, a photographer and wife of musician, Timi Dakolo, has accused Fatoyinbo of rape.
