8 Legit Dating Tips for Today's singles.

Wait two days before calling them back, don’t talk about past relationships, always pay on the first date…these are some tried and true dating rules that go back decades. But with so much changing so fast, a lot of the old rules just don’t apply anymore. While it’s still nice to pick someone up or take the time to make a reservation at a nice restaurant, it’s not really necessary anymore. So what is?

Here are eight of the new dating rules for singles looking for love:

1. Let them know you’re interested.

Playing hard to get might be endearing to some, but with so many people out there and more opportunities for the person you’re into to move onto someone new it can backfire in a big way. But who has time for games these days? It can make you look difficult and really doesn’t serve any useful purpose, says Justin Lavelle, who writes extensively about relationships and online dating. “If you like the person let them know. If you don’t, make it clear. Whether online or in-person, responses aimed solely for playing hard to get will likely ruin any chances of a good thing.” There’s no point stringing someone along, either.

2. Don’t be afraid to be honest.

Whether it’s online or in person, there’s no need to pretend to be someone you’re not. If they suggest going to a baseball game, and you’d rather do anything but…be honest and suggest something else. You’ll find out if there’s real chemistry by being who you are. You wouldn’t want to fall for someone who thinks you’re someone you’re not, would you?

3. Have sex whenever you’re ready.

That can be after the first date or it can be after the 50th. The old rule of having sex on the 3rd date needs to be thrown out the window. “In the same vein as ‘be yourself’ just do what feels right for you. Same with calling. If you want to call 10 minutes after a great date… call! Basically, don’t set yourself up for games with timeframes and deadlines that somebody told you years ago. Go with the flow and do what feels right,” says Lavelle.

4. Don’t expect exclusivity right away.

With online dating being one of the most popular forms of meeting people these days, it also means that a lot of people have a lot of choices—hundreds of matches, messages, text buddies, and even exes just a few clicks away, explains David Bennett, a certified counselor and dating expert. “This means many people are dating around, in complicated relationships, or at least sorting through the many options. Some will eventually choose one person to commit to, while others may not commit until they’ve had their fill.”

5. Plan the appropriate first date.

Your date doesn’t have to be an expensive dinner at a five-star restaurant anymore. And, in fact, it probably shouldn’t be. “It used to be you’d likely know a person somewhat well before you went on a first date. With online dating becoming more popular, you may only know the person from a bio, a few photos, and some text messages,” explains Bennett. So, it’s a waste of money to plan an expensive first date with someone whom you may have zero compatibility with. Instead, Bennett says to plan something simple and inexpensive, like a few drinks and walking around at a public festival, to see if there’s chemistry.

6. If you want to make a move, make a move.

Women, if you see someone you’re interested in, go up to them, get their number, ask them out! That old rule that women shouldn’t approach a guy doesn’t apply anymore because roles have evolved so much that if you don’t approach someone because “the guy should always approach the woman” you could miss out on meeting a really nice guy.

7. Don’t overwhelm people on social media.

In the past, if you didn’t live with the person you were dating, you likely had very little contact with them, except for some phone calls throughout the week and a few weekend dates, explains Bennett. “Today, with text messaging and social media, you may literally be in contact in some capacity during every waking hour (and even sleeping hours, if you’re a “sleep texter”). However, it’s easy to come across as needy and overbearing with constant contact like this. Make sure to give people some space.”

8. Don’t worry about the spark.

Love at first sight is rare and the idea should only be left for Nicholas Sparks novels. Lavelle explains that while the spark is mostly related to a real strong physical attraction, there are many other traits of a relationship that people connect on. “Maybe you’re really in tune with someone on a mental, spiritual, or emotional level. Some would argue that these things create a more solid foundation than just pure physical attraction. So don’t despair if you don’t feel that spark. You may still be on to something good.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! ... This is what makes you fall in love. Read everything.

Romance is an integrated emotion and urge in human life. Human body and psychology is designed to attract members of opposite sex. This intelligent design is the key to human relationships and sexuality which further works as basic element of human continuity on earth through procreation. Usually male and female counterparts feel the buds of romance germinated within at the beginning of adolescence itself.

Sexual maturity has no role in bringing romance on ones minds as people may feel romance much before they attain puberty. Romance is a psychological application imprinted into your brain which is stimulated even in the childhood itself. There are several social and psychological aspects behind a persons inclinations to fall in love.

Pheromones and Hormones

Most of the species are proved to produce certain pheromones and hormones which attract the opposite sex. Though fewer researches are taken place on human relationships, certain pheromones and hormones are believed to play vital role in attracting people each other and making them fall in relationships. These pheromones are said to be smell-free variants, as recognized by a psychological process not through a biological way.

Oxytocin and vasopressin are the two hormones that promote the emotion of romance in human beings. You might wonder if romance is caused by the presence of hormones and pheromones, then why everybody dont feel the same feelings with all others. The answer is the right combination. A persona may have developed likeness to certain combination of hormones only. This is the reason you will fall in love with certain people only.

Psychological aspect

Love is a psychological element of human relationships, thus it is very difficult to manipulate ones psychology to yield romance in his/her mind. There are certain psychological aspects that may possibly make people fall in love. A feeling of similarity is a major psychological facet that sprouts romance. People who interact for longer period or people who are of the same mind set may develop romance within themselves.

Physical attraction

Physical attraction is another reason behind romantic relationships. A normal man or woman is designed to get attracted to the opposite sex at the fulfillment of time. But all the men or women do not find each and every counterpart attracted in the same intensity. They feel some more beautiful or sexy while others less.

The reason is again psychological as the likeness of people is formed in the brain according to the aesthetic and sexual images and ideas a persona has created in his/her mind. The concept of beauty differs from people to people. Some may say that slim is sexy, while other may differ in opinion. As the sayings go, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, attractiveness also vary as preferences of people differ.

Social reasons

Human beings today live in societies where crystal clear laws are defined regarding the human relationships. Society encourages every adult to live in families where they procreate and grow kids as responsible members of society. A child who reaches the age of puberty sees male female relationships all around and gradually he/she too seeks the company of a counterpart.

Society, through life examples and media, fuses the idea of male female relationships into a child and he/she feels an urgency of falling in love within. Society opens more and more chances for girls and boys to interact. This helps them to fall in love easily as things or people most seen become dear to eyes. Todays family atmosphere plays a great role in making people falling in love.

Kids lack parental care as parents may find no time to spare for kids in their busy schedule of life. Thus the only option of receiving care and love is to find out a male/female partner who can substitute all other people. It is a proven fact that less cared kids at home often fall in relationships earlier than others. They satisfy the urge for love in a romantic relationship. This insecurity and unloved feelings often make kids end up with unhealthy relationships too. When the romance is concerned, the social reasons are more visible compared to the psychological or hormonal reasons.

6 most important things to consider before saying yes.

Mr Lucky has proposed and you say yes without skipping a beat. You are in love and nothing could be better, you can’t wait to share the rest of your life with him because he is your soulmate, the imperfectly perfect missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle you call your life. Now, with the excitement over and before dowry payment is done, there are certain things to consider before marrying Mr Lucky :

1. Last name

Traditionally, women would drop their maiden names and take up their husband’s. But currently, many opt out of it or hyphenate the last name. So a discussion on whether you’ll take up Mr Lucky’s last name is important to avoid an argument down the line. For some men, it is essential that his wife take up his last name and for others its no biggie. Sit Mr Lucky down and come to a decision.

2. Finances and bills

You need to address the big elephant in the room, how will bills be split? Or will Mr Lucky cater for all household matters? Such questions need to be raised and discussed in depth. The current economy is tricky and having a household with two incomes can ease up the burden greatly.

3. Living arrangements

Are you gonna move into Mr Lucky ’s house/ is he moving into yours? Are you guys moving into a new house? Living arrangements may seem like a minor detail but in some situations, it causes a rift between the newlyweds. Figure out where you will live and establish your roots as a family.

4. Religion

Yes, religion is a discussion that needs to happen. If you two are of different faiths then this topic needs to be dealt with early on. Will one move over to the other’s side? Will you two practice independently? Religion can be a big thorn in your backside and the earlier you come to an agreement the better.

5. Kids

Everyone expects immediately after marriage children happen. Even your mother-in-law is throwing not so subtle hints that the two of you should go at it and give her a grandchild before her time comes. The pressure is unbelievable and may leave you feeling overwhelmed. You and Mr Lucky should discuss whether or not you want to make babies and if so, how many do you each of you want? How would you like to raise them? And if you do have kids, which religion will they practice in the initial stages before they find their way? That is if the two of you practice different religions.

6. How to handle the in-laws

In-laws can be overzealous, over-bearing and a whole damn mess. You and Mr Lucky should discuss how you will handle them. When they come to visit what is the protocol? Who don’t you want in your house? What boundaries are you going to set? It’s nothing personal really, it just a means to ensure that the in-laws don’t become a bone of contention later on.

These are but a few aspects that need to be taken into consideration before you walk down the aisle. Don’t let the movies lie to you. Marriage is a partnership that comes with a tonne of Ts and Cs. The key is coming to an understanding with your partner.

The consequences of Cheating in a relationship

I am a 29 year old man who has been dating my current 31 year old girlfriend for close to a year. I met her last October at a mutual friend’s wedding and asked for her number. We began going out, and in January, we agreed to be in a committed relationship.

We share many hobbies and interests, have stimulating conversations and love spending time with each other. She is beautiful (she was a former model), and is practicing as a lawyer now. Income wise, she earns more than me, but that has never been an issue and she is always happy to chip in whenever we go out. I knew I was in love with her, but I didn’t know just how much she meant to me until I nearly lost her recently. Please allow me to explain.

Another touching story you can't miss

Prior to meeting my current girlfriend, I was notoriously known as being a player, with weekends filled with clubbing and picking up random girls. I hadn’t had a serious girlfriend for over 3 years. After committing to my girlfriend, I began missing my single lifestyle. Although my girlfriend always told me to have fun at my boys’ nights, she always wanted to know when I was home. She always wanted to know who I was with and where I was. I suppose I resented having to “check in” with her.

In March, I was having a boozy night out with some guy friends when I bumped into my friend, who I will call Katy. I always knew Katy liked me, and I was    flattered at the attention she was giving me. My friend Gary, who doesn’t have much respect for monogamy, egged me on. Drunk and encouraged by Gary, I ended up sleeping with Katy at her place that night. After the event, I immediately regretted it, and messaged Gary saying that I felt like a complete jerk for cheating. I stopped contacting Katy afterwards and cut her out of my life, and resolved to be a good boyfriend from then on.

I had almost completely forgotten about this event until one day, I was napping at my girlfriend’s house and she woke me by slapping me across the face. It turns out that she had gone through my phone and discovered the messages between me and Gary where I was confessing to Gary what had happened with Katy. My girlfriend told me she suspected I had never really given up my playboy ways which is why she went through my phone to find proof. She broke up with me and kicked me out of the house.

The following week, I sent her flowers and called every day begging for forgiveness. I told her I would do absolutely anything to regain her trust and give me a second chance. She finally decided to forgive me conditional upon the following: (i) No more boys’ nights; (ii) To install a GPS tracker on my phone; and (iii) To remove Gary from my life. I agreed to all conditions; the last one was the most difficult for me to do as I had known Gary since high school, but my girlfriend believed he was a bad influence to our relationship, so I agreed and told Gary I could not to see him anymore.

It’s been a month since she decided to give me a second chance. I am grateful to have her back in my life, as I now know that I cannot live without her. However, I can’t help but feel stifled as I have no freedom or control over my life anymore. She doesn’t allow me to see female friends she doesn’t trust, even in the company of others. She watches my every move on the GPS tracker, and flips out if I forget to “check in” or report who I am with. I know I deserve this, but I miss seeing my friends and miss my freedom too. Would I be unreasonable if I asked her to loosen the leash around my neck a little? Or is her behavior now completely rational?
